✿ Red-Seeded Asparagus/Yardlong Bean Plant Guide

Red-Seeded Asparagus Bean

Asparagus bean is a string-less legume cultivated to be eaten as green pods. The plant is subtropical/tropical and most widely grown in the warmer parts of South Asia, Southeast Asia, and southern China. They grow well under almost any conditions–very resistant to heat, humidity and insects; great for the South. They are a good source of protein, vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin, iron, phosphorus, and potassium, and a very good source for vitamin C, folate, magnesium, and manganese.

✿ Chinese Jinyan Xtra Long Cucumber 2015 Update 1

Definitely one of my favorite cucumbers. It is from Tianjin, China. Unlike the chubby cucumbers with bland taste in most grocery stores, it is much more slender and longer. The taste is fantastic. Sweet, crisp and cucumbery. You can even eat the skin too if you want, it is not bitter. I love to eat it fresh in the salad, or just snack on it!

✿ Edible Tambuli/ Lauki/ Calabash/ Bottle Gourd 2015 Update 1

Calabash, also known as bottle gourd, is a popular vegetable in Asian countries. This cutie if full of minerals and vitamins. I planted it every summer. It is disease resistant, bugs don't bother them too much either. I love the dedicate flavor the bottle gourd, buttery and sweet. I use them mainly for stir fries and soups. Oh, did I mention that it is a fast growing plant? From the mini female flower to the little fruit as shown below only takes 10 days or so!

✿ Growing Japanese Sweet Melons 2015: HARVEST TIME!!

Harvest my Japanese sweet melons today! So excited!! I got 6 of them, there's three more not quite ready yet. The mash bags worked nicely, no bugs bothered my melons. I will leave these melons out at room temperature for a couple of days before I pop them in the fridge, so they will reach their fragrant, sweet potential.
